When does a pool filter need attention?
Watch for changes from your equipment’s normal operation: a rising pressure reading at the same pump speed, reduced flow, debris returning to the pool, or water leaking around the filter. Record the clean operating pressure after service and follow the cleaning threshold in your specific filter manual. Changing a variable-speed pump’s speed can change the pressure reading.
For example, Pentair’s Clean & Clear Plus guidance calls for cleaning when pressure rises about 10 PSI above the original starting pressure or flow is substantially reduced. That guidance is specific to that filter; other equipment should follow its own manual.
Cleaning, repair or replacement?
Cleaning removes material collected by the filter. Repair addresses a damaged component such as a seal, gauge or internal part. Replacement may be appropriate when filter elements are damaged, the tank is compromised, parts are unavailable or the equipment is unsuitable for the system.

Do not assume an IntelliCenter or ScreenLogic installation measures filter pressure, sends cleaning alerts or automatically backwashes a filter.
